Welcome

It has been some time since I wrote down something. It’s not that I have nothing to share, or that I don’t have the time to think and write -although it is not like I have a lot of free time either- I guess, it has been a combination of factors.

I have been thinking on what do I want to share, and how do I want to evolve my creative practice. Not only creativity as a photographer, but also as a software developer, entrepreneur, and human. Since some time, I have been craving more creativity in my life, and the ability to take decisions on what to build, and how to build stuff. The 9 to 5 work is fine, but it’s lacking some reward to ownership.

So I have decided to take ownership of my creativity, and start building. The first step: re-activate my newsletter and writing. And to fulfill my creativity, I decided to migrate platforms, I’m in the process of migrating from Buttondown to Ghost. I enjoyed my time at Buttondown, but as I evolved and integrated more photography into my newsletter, I started looking for alternatives to better include photos along my writing, and to provide a better landing page for it. That’s when I found Ghost.

I’m sending this new issue from Ghost. You can view it online at LuisNatera.photo, you will notice that the website has a new design, and some new sections. I have been busy setting up the theme, learning a new platform, and ensuring that the migration is as smooth as possible.

What to expect for the future? That’s a very good question. I plan to keep sending newsletters, adding more of my photography work, and sharing as I keep figuring out my creative practice. At the moment I have some ideas about what I want to write about: open source, photography, platforms, travels, and cities. You can expect some writing along those topics heading your way.

Consistency. That’s going to be key. When I started writing my newsletter, I aimed to published it twice per week. I have find it a bit too much, even if the Monday’s issues were about a weeklog. For the sake of being constant I will be tuning it down to one per week. I guess that making this commitment public will help me be consistent in publishing. Let’s see how it goes.

Can I ask you for a couple of favours? If you read something you like, reach out to me. It’s always good to hear back. Also, share the newsletter. You read something interesting? Share it with a friend. Did you liked a photo? Feel free to repost it. At the end of the day what I’m trying to do is build my social network. Not a platform, but a social network in the full sense, connections of people that have similar interests, that value the time to create, to be creative, and step out of the algorithm that feed us constant reels and content to keep us hooked.

Here’s for creativity, building, and sharing.
